Platinum Theme Park
This is an initiative to develop a Platinum Theme Park in Rustenburg, the heart of South Africa's platinum industry. It harnesses three tiers of platinum production under the themes of education, entertainment and leisure.
Core to the Park is a Visitor's Centre, which will promote an awareness of platinum, its history and intrinsic value as one of the world's prime precious metals. The Park will also offer hotel, conference and exhibition facilities and a retail and entertainment centre in order to make it self-sustaining.
One of the main attractions of the Platinum Theme Park will be the simulated mine experience. This will bring the visitor to the "coal face" of an underground operation in a controlled and safe manner. The park will highlight the past, present and future of South African mining.
Other special features will include a platinum art gallery and an area where visitors may watch platinum jewellery being made. It is envisaged that the Park will become a major attraction for both local and international visitors.
